This Sunday, February 11, as we continue in The With-God Life series, we begin our study of The People of God as a Nation with the story of Samuel. Prayer stood at the center of Samuel’s entire life. Even before he was conceived, his mother, Hannah, dedicated him to God. He spent most of his youth living with Eli in the Temple and there as a boy responded to God’s call: “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). Later in his life, the people ask Samuel to appoint a king to rule over them so they could be like other nations. This represents a seismic change in how the people of God will relate to God, now through their kings instead of with God directly.
