Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 7. Traditions online worship service.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled,” Jesus said (John 14:1). Most often, we hear this gospel lesson for the 5th Sunday of Easter in the context of funerals. This reading (John 14:1-14) takes us back to holy week and that Thursday night, when Jesus washes the disciples’ feet, gives them a new commandment to love one another, and shares with them the last supper all before his arrest, trial, and crucifixion. Of course, the disciples’ hearts were troubled! Everything was changing and they were sad and confused and full of questions. Our hearts are troubled, too, with lots of reasons why. Join us in worship this week, Sunday, May 7th as we consider Jesus’ response to our troubled hearts.
