Fifth Sunday of Easter – Like Living Stones

Sunday, May 3 Traditions worship service. Join us in worship this Sunday for the fifth Sunday of Easter we continue to celebrate with Alleluias!  This Sunday we celebrate Confirmation Sunday in both the 9am Contemporary and 11am Familia Services, with Pastor Jason Darden preaching. Our 11am Sanctuary Service this week will celebrate Holy Communion with Rev. Schylar Ferguson, Minister in Residence, preaching. 1 Peter 2:2-10

Pentecost

Sunday, June 8 Traditions worship service. Come join us this Sunday as we worship God and wait for the Holy Spirit to whoosh over ALL our people during our unified Pentecost Worship service. We will join together—English and Spanish speaking worshipers—unified in praise, welcoming those coming forward for baptism and membership, and celebrating our graduating students’ accomplishments. Wear red for our only worship service of the day and come expecting the currents of God’s Holy Spirit to move us to ministry in the world. Acts 2:1-21

Seventh Sunday in Easter

Sunday, June 1 Traditions worship service. This Sunday, June 1st is the 7th Sunday of Easter. We will also celebrate the sacrament of holy communion and the culmination of Church on the Street–so please wear your Church on the Street t-shirts (more are available in the church office!) We’ll look together at Jesus’ prayer in John 17 at the conclusion of the farewell discourse where Jesus invites us to overhear his prayer that includes even us today! John 17:20-26

Sixth Sunday in Easter

Sunday, May 25 Traditions worship service. In the Gospel of John, as Jesus is preparing his disciples for his departure he says, If you love me . . . you will keep my commandments. “Those who love me will keep my word and my Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them. (John 14: 23) Jesus even takes it one step further saying, “Whoever does NOT love me does not keep my words. (v. 24) Join us this Sunday, May 25 as we continue learning from Jesus’ Farewell Discourse in John 14-17 at 9am or 11am. How is God making a home in you? Psalm 67 John 14:23-29

Fifth Sunday in Easter

Sunday, May 18 Traditions worship service. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:35 Jesus shared this “new commandment” with his closest friends during their last meal together. So what does it mean to love as God loves? If we are to be known as followers of Jesus Christ then we better talk about it. Join us in worship for the 5th Sunday in Easter at 9:00 am for contemporary worship in the CLC or for the Sanctuary service at 11:00 am in person or on live stream. Psalm 148 John 13:31-35

Fourth Sunday in Easter

Sunday, May 11 Traditions worship service. This Sunday we celebrate the 4th Sunday of Easter, also known as Shepherd Sunday. Observed each year on the 4th Sunday of Easter, we will read and sing together Psalm 23 and the Gospel passage from John 10 where Jesus speaks of himself as the Good Shepherd. Join us this Sunday in person at 9am or 11am (live online worship also available at 11am). Psalm 23 John 10:22-30

Third Sunday in Easter

Sunday, May 4 Traditions worship service. This Sunday is the 3rd Sunday of Easter. In addition to sharing in the sacrament of Holy Communion in all each worship service, we’ll also consider the Apostle Paul’s stewardship message to the Corinthians: “Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” (2 Corinthians 8:11-12). 2 Corinthians 8:7-12

Second Sunday in Easter

Sunday, April 27 Traditions worship service. Again, Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” – John 20:21 The cross is the inflection point of history. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus defeated evil, darkness, and death for all time. in the words of the great Easter Hymn “Love’s redeeming work is done, fought the fight the battle won.” And yet we acknowledge that evil, death, and darkness remain powerful realities for many in this world. This is why Jesus appears to his disciples multiple times after his resurrection. This is why he sends us forth in his name – to proclaim the good news. Join us in worship in person or online this Sunday as we proclaim the Easter message – Christ is risen indeed – Alleluia! Psalm 150 John 20:19-33

Easter Sunday – Just a Closer Walk with Thee

Easter Sunday, April 20 Traditions worship service. Walking with Christ is a central metaphor for the spiritual life; there are things that we learn by staying alert and walking with Jesus during Holy Week that we cannot learn in any other way. Some of the harder lessons and mysteries of our faith are lived out right in front of our eyes during these days, and the lessons to be learned are best taught in the intimacy of our relationship with Christ as we walk the path together. Join us as we walk with Jesus through his last supper with the disciples, his arrest and trial, to the cross, and as his body is carried to the tomb, so that we may experience the fullness of joy in Christ’s Resurrection on Easter morning. Light the Fire

Pentecost Sunday, May 19 Traditions online worship service. Sunday May 19th is Pentecost, a special day of celebration for new beginnings in the life of those gathered to follow Jesus. As we welcome the 2024 Confirmation Class and additional longtime White Plains friends into full membership, let’s remember that the same Spirit that filled the disciples with power so long ago desires to fill us today. Acts 2:1-21

Welcoming Wellness

Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 12 Traditions online worship service. This Sunday May 12th, we celebrate the 7th Sunday of Easter, Mother’s Day and the launch of new Mental Health Ministry Initiative called Welcoming Wellness. One in five people will be impacted by personal experiences of mental health challenges in any given year. Despite this commonality, in the church we have been silent for too long about this kind of suffering. Join us for a hopeful and healing word this Sunday and take this opportunity to shine a light of hope, even saving the life of someone from despair. Psalm 126

That My Joy May Be In You

I am The Vine and You are the Branch

If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5 This Sunday’s Gospel text makes it clear that centering our lives in Christ is pretty important. Christ the Good Shepherd

Fourth Sunday of Easter, April 21 Traditions online worship service. The 4th Sunday of Easter is often observed as “Shepherd Sunday” or “The Good Shepherd Sunday” because the lectionary text each year comes from Jesus teaching in John 10 paired with the 23rd Psalm. As familiar as this image of Jesus as the good shepherd is, it still holds power and possibilities for us today–as we are often like sheep needing a guide as we are divided over many issues and wandering, even becoming adrift in dangerous places of division, anger and exclusion. Join us this Sunday, April 21, as we consider what it means to be part of one fold that belongs to Jesus, the good shepherd, as we love and welcome our neighbors in all their diversity. Peace Be With You

Third Sunday of Easter, April 14 Traditions online worship service. This Sunday, April 14, we will celebrate the 3rd Sunday of Easter and take our place among the joyful, disbelieving, and wondering disciples as Jesus asks us: “Have you anything here to eat?” (Luke 24:36b-48).
