The People of God in Community – Thessalonians

Sunday, March 9 Traditions worship service. We first learn about Paul’s ministry in Thessalonica in Acts 17: “After Paul and Silas had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews” (17:1). It’s very likely that the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians is the earliest letter in the New Testament! This means that, for us as readers today, we find in 1 Thessalonians what was first on the mind of Paul and what were the initial issues being confronted by the early Church like: concerns about the timing of the return of Jesus Christ, the ethical behavior of Christians, and what is our task as disciples of Jesus. Join us this Sunday at 11am as we continue to learn from the Apostle Paul. 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10; 4:13-5:11; 5:12-28

Deck the Halls with Joy

Sunday, December 17.  Traditions online worship service. As we have lots of opportunities to gather together this season with songs and sounds of joy, we recognize that Joy does not mean that we pretend that all is well when there are many for whom all is not well. Instead, we claim the deep reservoir from which joy can be drawn and experienced even in darker times. As followers of Jesus, we claim the joy that sustains our life and presence that abides, even in the difficult moments. We deck the halls of our sanctuary, our homes, our hearts, and our lives with Joy so that we may continue to search out and celebrate the joys we find along the way of our journey in life, be they big or small, always to the glory of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
