How to Volunteer
At White Plains
- Pray for the success of our mission, its volunteers, guests and God’s will be done.
- Read the Role Descriptions and choose one to volunteer your service. Contact us by emailing familypromise@wpumc.com to sign up for the current host week.
- Families are especially needed to volunteer together for all of the roles in WIHN. Have a family sleepover at church!
- Ask a small group to volunteer with you.
- Invite a coordinator to give your group a training/ informational session on Family Promise.
- Ask the coordinator to help in a way you feel lead. We are always open to new ideas.
At the Day Center or Apartments
- Contact the Day Center during the week for volunteer opportunities including answering phones, facility repairs, and yard work. Day Center phone number (919) 832-6024.
- Donate furniture, small appliances, housewares, and clothes to the Day Center. Please call in advance as some storage is located offsite for some items.
- Donate funds to help with bus fares, car repair, and building maintenance to the Day Center and Apartments.
Safe Sanctuaries and Family Promise
Safe Sanctuaries is a policy document all United Methodist churches have been asked to create for the protection of all persons in the church against abuse. General Daily Schedule
Weekdays
Van driver arrives at White Plains by 6:30 AM to get guests to the Day Center by 7:00 AM
Van driver arrives at White Plains by 5:00 PM to pick up guests at Day Center by 5:30 PM
Dinner hosts arrive at White Plains by 5:45 PM to set up for dinner
Dinner is served between 6:00 and 6:15 PM
Evening hosts arrive by 7:00 PM
Overnight hosts arrive by 8:30 PM
Doors locked for the night at 10:00 PM
Lights out at 11:00 PM Wake-up at 6:00 AM
Everyone leaves by 6:45 AM
Saturdays and Sundays
The only schedule changes may be the times when the van should arrive at the Day Center in the mornings. Please confirm these times with the Transportation Coordinator or Primary Coordinator.
