White Plains collects food from the members of the congregation and stores it in an on-site pantry for distribution to needy families throughout the year.
Our Food Pantry is a source of ministry for those in need in our community. Following are the most needed non-perishable items:
All meats: chicken, stews, tuna
Child-friendly items: cereals, peanut butter, grape jelly, macaroni and cheese, chicken noodle soup.
Canned vegetables: green beans, corn, peas
Canned fruits: peaches, mixed fruit, pears, oranges, pineapple.
Other: dry beans (1 lb. bags black or pinto), rice (1 lb. bag), complete dinner meal boxes, meat soups, spaghetti & spaghetti sauces, vegetable soups.
Those who wish to make a financial contribution, can make their checks to WPUMC with a designation in the memo line "Food Pantry".
Thursday Meal Bag Distributions: Every Thursday, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. from our Christian Life Center, we provide a meal bag, bakery - deli food items, and fresh produce, when available.
Mother - Baby Ministry: Mothers with babies often make requests for diapers. Food Lion Gift Cards are given for the purchase of baby food. Contributions of diapers are welcomed.
Samaritan Bag Ministry: Have you ever pulled up to a stoplight and seen a homeless person standing there with a sign that says "Hungry"? The Samaritan Bag Ministry makes available bags containing non-perishable food items and a pocket Bible for you to take and have in your car. A bag or bags can be picked up from the Mission Alcove in the Christian Life Center, (they are located on shelf above the table), or at the Visitor Center in the Sanctuary Lobby.
"Ready-to-Go" Food Bags: Do you know someone who would be blessed to receive a food bag ? or have you been approached in the parking lot by someone who is asking for money to buy groceries? "Ready-to-Go" Food Bags are located on the table in the Christian Life Center - Mission Alcove.
Community Outreach: Meal Bags are provided once a month for this new Mission and Ministry to a local apartment complex and trailer park. Additional meal bags are provided as needed.
White Christmas: Christmas Meal Bags are provided for each of the adopted White Christmas Families. Families that are not adopted receive reservations for the Christmas Meal Bag to be picked up the day of the Distribution.
