    Position Title:
    Ministerial Intern, Luz del Pueblo
    Position Description:
    As the ministerial Intern for Luz del Pueblo, Amie assists with worship and the program ministries of this Hispanic faith community. She works with the pastor of Luz del Pueblo, Rev. Edith Salazar, to structure Sunday morning worship, leads Bible study and assists with the music ministry of the church. Amie also helps to facilitate the Semillas de Amor (Seeds of Love) tutoring program. She works to connect the ministries of White Plains with this church and to create clear avenues for cross-community participation.

    Amie is in her third year of seminary at Duke Divinity School, studying pastoral care and theology and she will earn her Masters of Divinity in May 2012.  She grew up in Northern Virginia, studied International Business and Finance at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and she worked for four years in consulting prior to coming to Duke.  Upon graduation, she hopes to serve within the United Methodist Church as a Deacon with a particular passion for ministry with those beyond the church walls in our local community. 

     

    Amie recently married her husband, Mike, and they live in Cary.  She enjoys jogging, watching sports on TV, and loves to bake and cook!  Amie studied abroad for a year in Italy and Belgium while in college; from middle school through graduate school, she has studied 6 different languages.  She believes strongly in the beauty of diversity and is excited to live into her calling to serve God’s people in the world.
